Retail Fulfilment

The Client

Our client retails under the three brands of Nimbus Emporium, The Fine Bedding Company and Kings & Queens across. Their direct to consumer bedding range covers duvets, pillows, mattress toppers and protectors.

The Challenge

Historically from a wholesale trading background warehousing and logistics operations have been largely geared around the large-scale storage and movement of bulk shipments to business trading addresses as opposed to individual units to and end consumer. As a new direct to consumer venture the initial challenges centred mainly around system interfaces, a rules engine and demand planning.

The Solution

Our open API was used to create a direct interface between the back office of the 3 websites and our warehouse management system. In doing orders would be imported in and despatch confirmations exported in real time. To automate carrier selection a rules engine was created for the client to map their preferred delivery service by order type. As there were no prior trading history for consumer orders a dynamic demand planning tool was created for our client. This tool would trigger replenishment of inventory from bulk to prime based on pre-agreed min/max stock levels.

The Result

The Fine Bedding Co have made a successful transition from wholesale to retail with own website orders growing by the week. With growing confidence in the ability to fulfil direct to consumer orders the profile of the three websites will continue to rise and additional routes to market will now be explored including drop shipping.

The Inside Track

The transition from wholesale to retail is fast becoming a well-trodden path. Businesses uncertain of how to manage D2C operations will continue to turn to third party fulfilment operators that specialise in this field. Overall our tried and tested integration framework goes a long way to ensuring a seamless integration and increased automation.
